It’s 40 weeks today, readers. Am I writing this from my hospital bed between contractions, you wonder? Um, no.
Baby is going to be fashionably late I suppose, based on data I have accumulated from various blood relatives. Mom’s first baby, my sister Kim, was three weeks late. Kim’s first baby, my niece Jocelyn, was also late, by at least a week. And although my aunt Marty was born to my grandmother, Mimi, in the car in the parking lot of the hospital, I don’t think this will happen to me. Statistically only 4 to 5% of babies are born on their due dates anyhow. But that’s not making me feel less ancy.
So, this led me to start employing old wives tales to get this show on the road. Eating spicy food? Check. Eating pineapple? Check. Walking up and down stairs? Check. But to no avail. So I’m starting to feel that I have to start doing things differently, and no surprise, most are food related. A breakfast date with Jake during the weekend led me NOT to order my typical fare of a veggie cheese omelet and I opted for some kind of “Slam” item on the menu that included pancakes. I styled my hair differently. That will bring on labor! Ate a pint of coffee ice cream. Ate a regular sized bacon cheeseburger from Five Guys instead of the “little bacon chee.” That JUST happened, so we’ll see if baby responds.
THEN, because I haven’t written any entries, I figured that my lack of writing MUST be the delay. Baby wants mom to write her first 2008 entry, and so I have relented, even though I’m not feeling funny or creative. I feel like a foggy day. I’m not IN a fog. I am one. My insomnia has kicked up to the point where I have no worries about getting out of bed around 2AM to start watching a movie. It’s a lot more entertaining than watching the clock.
Also, the recent celeb-u-spawn all made their presence known last week and my college roommate also had her baby girl last week (ironically she had the same due date as me). So, it’s my turn! Today it snowed. That surely was a sign, right?
Maybe I should be more jubilant, like this woman…
